Contact Lens Overuse
Contact lenses are a wonderful alternative to having to wear glasses, both from a cosmetic and a functional standpoint (many outdoor and water activities). However, too much of a good thing can be bad! Contact lenses are, after all, a piece of plastic and our eyes were never made to be covered with plastic 24/7! When contact lens patients push the limits of common-sense healthy contact lens wear guidelines, their corneas will frequently push back! And given that the nerve density on the surface of the eye or cornea is three to four times greater than that of other areas of the body, if your cornea is unhappy, you will be unhappy!
So, if you are unable to comfortably wear your contact lenses, come on in for an evaluation. It is very likely that we can identify ways to return you to comfortable contact lens use by recommending some simple changes to your current contact lens use habits and/or identifying and treating other conditions like Dry Eye Syndrome that may be keeping you from experiencing all of the convenience that contact lenses can provide!
